The Mandeville extension site was established in January 2005 with approximately twenty (20) students and one (1) administrative assistant. Similar to the model currently used in Montego Bay, this site was initially accommodated at facilities utilized by the Management Institute for National Development (MIND) in Mandeville. As the student population grew and the programmes increased, the site was relocated in September 2010.
The VTDI established extension sites to meet the following strategic goals:
- programme offerings reviewed and increased to meet current and future needs of stakeholders in each region;
- infrastructure and services to support programmes and the teaching-learning process improved;
- number of certified TVET professionals increased
In pursuit of these goals, a campus manager was employed in April 2011. Although based at the Mandeville extension site, the campus manager’s portfolio includes all of VTDI’s extension sites.
The present location of the Mandeville extension site is the third and largest site since the inception of VTDI Mandeville. The site currently offers a variety of short/customized courses and four programmes: the Diploma in ICT, the TVET Instructor’s Diploma, the Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Training, and the Bachelor of Education in Applied Technology.
